Touhou Multi Scroll Shooting 2 (or MSS 2 as we’re gonna refer to it from now on) is another new Touhou Derivative work, this time a sequel to 2019’s MSS 1 which you can actually grab for free on Steam. This time there’s multiple characters, 7 Stages, and overall it’s a huge improvement on the original. Some of the bullet patterns really had me sweating my ass off trying to dodge them, but using Sakuya’s time slow ability actually felt super engaging and fun. MSS 2 is a game that likes to have a little fun with the property, the characters appearances are a little embellished let’s say.

Some scantily clad outfits are aplenty if that’s your bag, but most of the game remains PG for those of us who are just here for the gameplay. The music is a bit of a mixed bag but I was really enjoying the rendition of Heian Alien that plays when you fight Nue, and when she transformed into an actual UFO I thought that was pretty funny and cute.
